The idea of starting an orphanage took when a two-year-old boy was brought to Sahodharan Ayyappan with sore covering his body. His parents had died under a train and a policeman found the little boy wandering near the railway station. The child was treated by Sahodharan Ayyappan's son-in-law, who is a doctor.
A library is also working in Samajam. More than 30000 books are available in the library.On Sree Narayana Giri’s golden jubilee year,2016 it was all time well wisher, Dr M R Sreedharan Nair’s Saraswathy Nair Memorial Trust that came forward with a project of a fully sophisticated digital library. July 10, 2016 was a landmark day for Sree Narayana Giri Library. On that day Hon’ble Justice Mrs K Usha Sukumaran inaugurated Vadasserimannil Raghavan Nair memorial E-library , attached to the existing library.
The bakery which started in 1982 with financial assistance from Oxfam has been running well. We make bread, fruit breads, buns, biscuits and cakes. All these find a ready market. However we have reached the stage where it is essential to modernise the equipments we use. TATA Tetley Ltd., gave us a generous help in the form of a generator.
For the time being it is located in a portionof the santhimandiram. The contributions by Mr.Chandrakant Desai in memory of his father Mr.Shivalal Jagjeevan Desai have been of great use to us. So we have named it as SJDG Press. A new offset printing machine was donated by Mr. Krishnakumar, TATA,a new cutting machine by Dr. Saravanaraj and envelope cutting machine by Rotary Club. Training in printing press is being imparted to girls with a modern printing machine. Training is also given in DTP,screen printing and binding.
